Six years ago, Nigel came into our lives. He was a tiny boxer puppy who joined our family of 5. At the time our twin boys were 4 year and our daughter was 5 months old. He was a joy from the beginning, full of spunk and mischief. Always greeting us with the boxer wiggle, hugs like no other, and farts that could clear a room. Nigel has traveled the world with us, he has lived in 3 different states and Korea.
He loves his kids with all of his heart, guarding them, protecting them, always ready to put his life before theirs. He’s so loyal and obedient to his daddy. As for me, his mother, I never knew the joy a dog could bring before Nigel came into our lives. Unconditional love, never any judgment, just pure love. His heart is truly made of pure gold and his big brown eyes will tell you the story of his life. He’s loved by so many. Nigel has brought so happiness to so many people all over the world through his short 6 years.
Nigel was diagnosed with High grade (end stage) lymphoma a week ago. There were no signs that he had cancer taking over his body....he’s has been his normal goofball self, until he suddenly wasn’t and it is too far advanced for Chemotherapy treatment. We are all in shock at the news, but we want to enjoy our time left with Nigel.
He is getting extra love and snuggles, there is no doubt he knows how much he is loved.
As each new day begins, I have to remind myself to not dwell on the sickness or what ifs, but to enjoy every little moment I get with him...to see the happy parts. Every little wag of his nub of a tail just because we said his name, every time he barks when his daddy comes homes from work, every time his kids walk through the door and he’s there to say hi.
I dread the day I have to walk through the door and I’m not greeted by my boy folding his body in half because he’s so happy to see me. He is a gift we will always treasure, for now we will enjoy each remaining day we have with him. We love you Mr. Nigel Murray Hooker!!
